Privacy Policy
Recall is built privacy-first. The audiobooks you listen to and the notes you take are nobody's business but yours.
The short version
- We have no servers and no accounts. You don't sign up, log in, or give us your email. Recall has no backend at all.
- Your audiobooks stay yours. Recall plays DRM-free audiobook files (M4B) that you already own. You pick them from your own iCloud Drive or Files; the app copies them into its private storage on your iPhone. Nothing is ever uploaded to us.
- Your highlights, notes, and place stay on your device. Highlights, notes, bookmarks, and your playback position are stored locally on your iPhone. We never see them.
- We don't track you. No analytics SDKs, no advertising, no third-party trackers, no selling of data.
Information we do NOT collect
- No name, email, phone number, or account.
- No location.
- No contacts, photos, or health data.
- No browsing or usage tracking.
- No copies of your audiobooks — they never leave your device.
Data stored on your device only
The audiobook files you import, plus everything you create in Recall — highlights (with their place in the audiobook), notes, bookmarks, chapter positions, playback speed, and your resume position — are stored only on your device, in the app's private sandbox. Deleting the app deletes this data. We cannot recover it because we never have it.
Your audiobook files
Recall does not host, sell, stream, or download any audiobook content. It is a player for files you already own and provide. When you import a file, Recall copies it from the location you chose (iCloud Drive / Files) into its own private storage so it can play offline. That copy lives on your device and is never sent anywhere.
Purchases (subscriptions)
If you subscribe to Recall Premium, purchases are handled entirely by Apple through the App Store, using Apple's StoreKit. We use no third-party payment or analytics provider — your subscription status is read on-device directly from Apple. We never receive your name, email, or payment details. See Apple's privacy policy.
Crash reports
If you opt in to Apple's standard crash reporting (iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Analytics & Improvements), Apple may share anonymized crash logs with us through App Store Connect. This is Apple's built-in mechanism — there is no third-party SDK in Recall, and these reports contain no personal information or audiobook content.
Children
Recall is a general-audience audiobook player and is not directed at children.
Your control
- Delete any audiobook, highlight, or note inside the app at any time.
- Delete all your data by deleting the app.
- Manage or cancel a subscription in iOS Settings → your name → Subscriptions.
Changes
If this policy changes, we'll update this page and the "Last updated" date.
